Frequently asked questions · Zack Typing
Answers about dictating at the cursor, offline mode, dictionary, audio files, credits and plans, privacy and microphones on Windows.
Before you download
How do I get started?
Install Zack Typing on your Windows PC and set up your microphone. Click in the field you want to write in and press Ctrl+Space. Say your text, then press the shortcut again to stop. Zack Typing turns the recording into text and inserts it there.
Which apps can I dictate into?
You can dictate into text fields in email apps, documents or a browser chat, for example. Place your cursor where you want the text before recording. If insertion does not work in an app, you can copy the text from Zack Typing and paste it yourself.
Can I try Zack Typing for free?
Yes. Zack Free gives you 500 credits to start with, then 100 each week. You can use them to dictate online without taking out a subscription. How far they go depends partly on the length of your recordings. See the plans for an estimate.
Do I need Zack KI or another subscription?
Zack Typing works without the Zack KI app. If you use both, they share your plan and credit balance. Just sign in to each app with the same account. You do not need a second subscription.
What happens to my recordings?
Online recognition sends audio and relevant dictionary terms to the speech provider. Signed-in results remain on the Zack service for seven days for safe retries; guest results for 24 hours. Offline, or after you choose local dictation once credits run out, an offline model recognizes speech on your PC. Shared privacy policy.
Can I dictate without an internet connection?
After signing in, download the free Small offline model. Without a connection, or after you switch to it when your credits run out, you keep dictating on your PC without credits. Check that it supports your language. Medium and Large are available from Basic. Larger models need more memory and processing power. Chips such as rewriting still need internet.
How is it different from Windows voice typing (Win+H)?
Windows voice typing is built into Windows and supports voice commands such as “delete that”. Zack Typing is a separate app: it can also dictate without internet using a local model, learns names and technical terms through a personal dictionary, improves or shortens the text if you like and turns audio files into text. Zack Typing does not offer voice commands.
While dictating
Does the app window need to stay open?
Zack Typing needs to be running, but its main window can stay in the background. Start recording with your shortcut. A small recording bar appears over your app so you can see that it is recording. You can also pause, stop or cancel the recording there.
Can I use a different shortcut?
Yes. Change the recording shortcut in settings if you prefer another combination or the default is already in use. You can also start a recording with the microphone button in the app.
Can Zack Typing rewrite my text?
Yes. Choose a chip during recording or apply it to the finished text. Standard actions remain available in Free. From Basic, you can customize their names and instructions. “Original” takes you back to the original transcript.
What if a word is transcribed incorrectly?
You can correct the text in Zack Typing. For names or technical terms you use often, add an entry to your personal dictionary. If you have kept the recording, you can also listen to that part again.
How does the dictionary learn from my corrections?
From Basic: If you turn learning on in settings, Zack Typing can pick up recurring spelling corrections, such as a name you often have to fix. Clear, repeated corrections can be added to the dictionary automatically. If changes are unclear or conflict, you are asked to review them. A one-off rewrite is not simply saved as a new spelling.
Can I transcribe an existing audio file?
Choose a recording or drag it into the Zack Typing window, for example MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG. Free processes up to two minutes of original audio per file; Basic supports longer files. This Free limit does not apply when using your own AI provider.
Can I dictate in different languages?
Yes. You can select languages in settings or let the app detect them automatically. Available languages depend on the model being used. Before downloading an offline model, check that it supports your language.
Where can I find previous dictations?
The app’s history contains the dictations you have kept. You can search, rename, edit and delete them. If you saved the audio too, you can play it back or export it as a file.
Account and costs
What are credits, and how much does a dictation cost?
Credits are your balance for online use. A dictation has no fixed price: usage depends partly on recording length and processing. Additional chips can use more credits. You can see your remaining balance in the app’s Account section.
What happens when I run out of credits?
You need more credits to keep dictating online. You can wait for your next weekly allowance or buy a credit pack. If you have already set up offline recognition, you can keep dictating with it. If offline recognition is set up, switch to it explicitly to continue without credits. An empty balance does not trigger an automatic switch.
Do unused credits carry over?
Your weekly allowance resets each week; unused weekly credits do not carry over. Your 500 starting credits and purchased credit packs are separate and remain valid for 12 months.
How do I sign in?
Have a sign-in link sent to your email address, or sign in with Google. You do not need a separate Zack password. Use the same account for Zack KI and Zack Typing if you want to share your balance between them.
Can I use my own API key?
Yes. You can add your own API key in settings. Requests made with that key are billed directly by the provider and do not use Zack credits. The provider’s prices and terms apply.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Use the cancellation form or email hello@zack-ki.com. You do not need to sign in to use the form. Your declaration is received on submission; no additional email confirmation from you is required. The confirmed end date depends on the term and cancellation rights; after the initial term, the notice period is no more than one month. Since both apps share one plan, cancellation applies to both.
Why does my invoice say Paddle?
Paddle handles the payment and issues the invoice, so its name also appears on your bank statement. Your invoice is sent by email.
Installation and help
What do I need on my PC?
Zack Typing runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. To dictate, you need a microphone, such as the one built into your laptop or a headset. Online recognition also needs an internet connection. An offline model must be downloaded before you can use it.
Why does Windows show an installation warning?
Windows SmartScreen may show a warning for a direct download if it does not yet recognize the installer well enough. Check that you downloaded the file from this website. See the message and installation steps.
Why is my microphone not recording?
First check that your microphone is not muted and that the right input device is selected in Zack Typing. Also check the Windows privacy settings to make sure desktop apps are allowed to use your microphone.
How do I uninstall Zack Typing?
Open Windows Settings, go to Apps, find Zack Typing and choose Uninstall. If you have a subscription, cancel it separately: uninstalling the app does not cancel your plan.
Where can I get help?
Email hello@zack-ki.com. Briefly describe what you were trying to do and what happened instead. For insertion problems, include the name of the app. The developer answers these messages personally.
