In short
By default, Zack Typing detects the language while you speak, so you can dictate an English email and then a German one without changing anything. Under “General” → “Languages” you can fix one language or list the ones you use. Offline, it depends on the model: Small knows four languages, Medium 25 European ones, Large about 100.
- Default
- Automatic, detected during speech
- Setting
- Settings → “General” → “Languages”
- Offline
- Small: 4 languages, Medium: 25 European, Large: about 100
- Microphone
- Settings → “Recording” → “Microphone”
Step by step
- Open the Zack Typing settings and choose “General”.
- Look at “Languages”. If no language is listed, it says “Automatic (detected during speech)”.
- To fix a language, open “Add language…” and pick it. Add more languages the same way.
- Remove a language with its cross. With an empty list, Zack Typing detects the language again.
- Under “Recording” → “Microphone”, choose your headset or keep “System default”.
Automatic, one language or several: what should I choose?
| Setting | What happens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| No language listed | Recognition detects the language of each dictation | You switch between languages from one message to the next |
| One language | Recognition is set to this language | You always dictate in the same language, or detection guesses wrong |
| Several languages | Zack Typing tells recognition that you speak one of these; what you actually say takes precedence | You use a few languages and want to rule out others |
“Add language…” offers German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish and Chinese. For other languages, leave the list empty and let Zack Typing detect the language.
The app language under “Appearance” → “Language” is separate. It switches the menus between English and German and does not affect dictation.
Which languages work offline?
Without internet, an offline model on your PC recognizes your speech, and each model knows a fixed set of languages:
- Small: German, English, Spanish and French, without detection.
- Medium: 25 European languages, detected automatically.
- Large: about 100 languages, detected automatically.
With Small, select the language you dictate in. Without a selection, Small uses German; with several selected, it uses the first one it knows. The settings show this next to the model, for example “Dictates in English.” Setup and model choice are in offline dictation.
How do I pick the right microphone?
Under “Recording” → “Microphone”, “System default” follows the input device set in Windows, or you pick a specific headset or microphone. If Zack Typing cannot find a microphone, it says “No microphone was found. Connect one and open Settings to pick it.”
A headset close to your mouth helps in every language, especially when you switch between languages or people talk nearby.
Related questions
Can I mix two languages in one dictation?
Zack Typing does not change its language settings within a recording; how mixed sentences come out depends on recognition. If you want to rule out other languages, list only the ones you speak.
Do chips change the language of my text?
No. The chips “Improve”, “Shorten” and “Professional” keep the language you spoke.
Why is my text in the wrong language?
Automatic detection can guess wrong, for example with a very short recording or a strong accent. Add your language under “Languages” so recognition does not have to guess.
