In short
Open Zack Typing and type a word into “Search dictations”: the history shows every dictation with that word in its name or text. Click a dictation to edit, copy or insert it again. Right-click it to play the recording or save it as an audio file, as long as the recording was kept.

Find and reuse a dictation
- Open the Zack Typing window: click its icon in the notification area or press Alt+5.
- Type a word you remember into “Search dictations”, for example “invoice” or a customer’s name.
- Click the dictation. Edit the text directly if needed, then choose “Copy” or “Insert”.
- To listen again, right-click the dictation and choose “Play audio”. Drag the slider in the player to jump to a passage.
- To keep the recording, right-click and choose “Save audio”, then pick a folder.
What can you do with a past dictation?
The history groups dictations under Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days and Older. Older entries appear when you click “Load more”.
- Rename: Zack Typing names longer dictations automatically. Right-click and choose “Rename” to give one a name you will find again.
- Edit: click into the text and type. “Reset” undoes your edits and restores the transcribed text.
- Copy or insert: “Copy” puts the text on the clipboard. “Insert” pastes it into the window you were working in before you switched to Zack Typing.
- Rework: a chip such as “Improve” or “Shorten” rewrites the text and uses credits. “Original” brings back the recognized version.
- Continue in Zack KI: the Zack KI chip opens the text in the Zack KI app. See voice memo to notes.
- Delete: right-click, choose “Delete”, then click “Click again to delete”.
Why can’t I play the audio of a dictation?
Zack Typing keeps a recording only while “Save audio” is on. The switch is in the settings under “Advanced” → “History” and is on by default. A dictation recorded while it was off shows “Audio was not saved for this dictation.”
Recordings are deleted 30 days after they were made, even if you keep the text longer. The text stays searchable, but there is nothing left to play. Save recordings you need with “Save audio” before then. “Open audio folder” in the same place shows all recordings Zack Typing currently keeps.
How long does a dictation stay in the history?
30 days by default. The time counts from the last time you renamed, edited or inserted the dictation, so dictations you reuse stay longer. You can change it to 7 or 60 days or keep dictations indefinitely; see what happens to your recordings.
Related questions
Is my dictation history stored in the cloud?
No. The history and the saved recordings are on your PC.
Does the search find words inside the text?
Yes. It searches the name and the full text. The last word you type may be incomplete: “invo” already finds “invoice”.
Can I restore a deleted dictation?
No. Zack Typing has no recycle bin for dictations. Copy the text or save the audio first if you might need it later.
Do transcribed audio files show up in the history?
Yes. A transcribed audio file is saved like any other dictation and shows “Transcribed from this file” with the file name.
